Cork University Maternity Hospital

Cork University Maternity Hospital is the only obstetrics and gynecology hospital in county Cork. It is a tertiary hospital providing care to the entire southern region in Ireland.

Clinical Team

The pregnancy loss clinical team at Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is led by Dr Keelin O’Donoghue and Dr Noirin Russell, Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynecology along with Clinical Midwives Specialist in Bereavement & Loss, Anna Maria Verling and Orla O’Connell. Senior specialised registrars (SpR), registrars and student midwives may also participate in the clinics.

Clinical Midwives Specialist in Bereavement and Loss

The Midwives are available to provide information and support on significant aspect of pregnancy loss. This ranges from midwifery care, bereavement support, medical investigations and treatment, along with support in subsequent pregnancies and providing a point of contact as a link within the hospital.
 

The midwives specialists are Anna Maria Verling and Orla O’Connell. They can be contacted through the CUMH phone number 021 49205000 during work hours.

The midwives are not always in a position to answer the phone, so please leave a voicemail with your contact details.

Administration

Administration support to the pregnancy loss services can be contacted on 021 4920553 or the CUMH main reception at 021 4920500.

Hospital Chaplaincy

The chaplains work directly with patients to provide pastoral and spiritual counsel and support regardless of your beliefs. They also provide religious services to staff, patients and families if desired.

 

The chaplains can be contacted on the CUMH number 021 4920500.

Maternity Social Work Service

The Social Work Department in CUMH provides social work support/counselling to those who have experienced pregnancy loss.

 

This service can be contacted through the CUMH main reception number 021 4920500 or directly on 021 4920567.

 

You can also be referred to this service by your GP.

Ward 2 South

Ward 2 South is a dedicated pregnancy loss and gynaecology ward in CUMH.

The staff on this ward provide inpatient care and support for women at all stages of pregnancy loss.

Pathology Department

The pregnancy loss team work in close collaboration with the pathology department in Cork University Hospital.
